Editorial Policy

Last updated: 30 September 2026

Readers use our guides to make decisions that involve a lot of money. This policy explains the standards we hold ourselves to.

Our principles

  • Accuracy first. We check claims against reliable sources and correct errors quickly.
  • Independence. Advertising, affiliate commissions and partnerships don’t decide what we write or which products we mention. See our Affiliate and Advertising Disclosure.
  • Balance. We include drawbacks and alternatives, not just benefits, and we say when the answer is “it depends”.
  • Clarity. We aim to explain technical topics in plain language and to show our numbers and assumptions.

How we research

  • We prefer primary and official sources: legislation, tax authorities, regulators, utilities, standards bodies and manufacturers’ datasheets (for example the IRS, HMRC, Ofgem, state commissions and utility tariff pages).
  • We use industry and comparison sites as secondary sources, and we treat them cautiously because many have commercial interests. Where sources disagree, we say so, use ranges or point you to the official source.
  • Figures we work out ourselves (for example payback examples) are labelled as illustrative and show their assumptions.

Keeping content up to date

  • Time-sensitive pages show a “last reviewed” or “last verified” date and, where relevant, a table of deadlines and expiry dates.
  • We review high-impact pages regularly (for example incentives, tariffs, VAT and tax rules) and after major policy changes.
  • If something has expired or changed, we update the page as soon as we can.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to help with research and drafting. Every article is reviewed and edited by a person (Marcos Martinez Martinez) before it’s published, and we check facts against the sources listed above. AI tools don’t decide our editorial positions.

Corrections

If you find an error, please email info@solarhomebasics.com with the page, the issue and, if you can, a source. We’ll investigate and correct confirmed errors promptly. For significant corrections, we’ll note the change on the page.

Conflicts of interest

We disclose commercial relationships that could reasonably be seen to influence our content. We don’t accept payment to change our assessment of a product or company. Sponsored content, if any, is clearly labelled.

Not professional advice

Our content is information, not advice. See our Terms and Disclaimer.
